Dude…
Week 5 was a whirlwind, leading us toward the inevitable college football playoff. We got a top SEC matchup, and a ton of interesting results from this week's contest. This page will no longer talk about KU football until they decide to play like a football team again. Even though I won’t bore you with Jayhawks football, there was still a ton of action to get to from this week.
Miami Escapes- Miami… talk about an escape. YIKES! Talk about a scare. The Hurricanes were down 10 with 9 mins left to go in the game. Cam Ward darts into field goal position and throws a TD pass to Cam McCormick to cut the lead to 3. A savvy defensive stop set up Cam Ward to drive his team down the field again to score, going up 4 after the successful 2-point conversion to go up 4. Now, a hail mary pass that was caught by Virginia Tech to win the game.. Or was it? It’s the biggest controversy of the year so far. It seemed like Felton had possession and control down to the ground. However, after review the call was overturned… saying incomplete pass. Were the refs wrong? I’m not an expert, but I fear the refs got it wrong. Who knows, Cam Ward again shows us why he’s one of the Heisman Candidates as the Hurricanes squeak to a 5-0 start.
Ole Miss, OH NO- It’s one thing to lose to another SEC team, that’s acceptable. Losing to Kentucky at HOME AT THE SIP???? You’re kidding. Jaxson Dart played ok, but not great. With 261 yards and a touchdown throw, he had a Quarterback Rating of 79.5. That’s not going to win you football games. Kentucky kept themselves close, and was able to hold off with a 20-17 win. Kentucky didn’t look great, which means even worse things about Ole Miss. They should’ve put the Wildcats in the dirt, but found themselves there instead. A tough loss, which is going to be a hard hill to climb when you have Alabama, Georgia, and Texas in your conference. Their College Football Playoff chances might have just blown away in the wind. We will see if Dart and company can climb that hill, but I think it’s going to be too big of a challenge to climb back into CFP territory.
Bama vs. Georgia… what else could you ask for?- WOW, WOW, WOW!! What a game! The #4 Alabama Crimson Tide vs. #2 Georgia Bulldogs, grab your popcorn! This contest started off as a blowout. Alabama’s defense held Carson Beck to a mere 7 points in the 1st half. On the other side of the ball, Jalen Milroe was feasting as they put up 30 points and had a 30-7 lead going into halftime. All seemed lost for the Bulldogs, except, you can’t forget about the dogs in any game. Beck came crawling back, so far back, that they ended up taking a 1 point lead in the 4th. How does Milroe respond? None other than a one play shot to Ryan WIlliams for a 75 yard touchdown! This 17 year old is the real deal, Williams put up 177 yards and a touchdown in the win. He will be a threat for this year and any year he’s on a college football field. Georgia had a chance to come back, but in the final seconds, Carson Beck threw a pick to seal the win for the Tide. There is nothing to worry about with the Dog Pound. Beck looks great and they’re defense has been one of the best in the nation. The Bulldogs have lost only 3 times in the last 3 years, all coming from the Tide. The Tide find themselves as the frontrunner to win it all, but have some tough matchups still left which include at Tennessee, vs Mizzou, and at LSU. The Tide should roll their way into a bye in the playoff, the only question now is, who is going to stop them?
