How6rd’s Takeaways

Caleb Williams’ negatives were very exposed…and that’s ok: The Heisman favorite at the beginning of the season was having another solid year through the first six weeks of the season, but this past week he ran into a very explosive defense on the road and paid heavily trying to play hero ball. Caleb Williams underwent a ton of pressure in the pocket and when he was unable to make time for himself running away he forced throws that were both unnecessary and costly. For USC’s blowout loss, it almost seemed inevitable that they wouldn’t hold an undefeated season especially when their defense has forced the Trojans to have way more competitive games than needed. This shouldn’t be something that scares teams away from drafting him as the rest of the QB class has their negatives too and overall is pretty raw going into next year’s draft similar to 2021. The Mahomes comparisons and TJ Watt-esque mock trades for Williams were too ridiculous from the media and now with a game seeing he’s human, everyone knows he’s still a talented young QB so now he can play ball and hopefully shake off what was a brutal loss for USC.

No Bowers for the Bulldogs may be the end of their playoff hopes: Now I know I just talked about overreactions and I believe the Georgia Bulldogs are still a competitive team between their defense and a constantly improving quarterback in Carson Beck. Unfortunately,

star tight end Brock Bowers looks like he’ll be missing at least a month after undergoing ankle surgery, and for a team with a very underwhelming receiving core besides him that is very bad news. What’s worse for Georgia is that they’re going to go through the toughest stretch of their season after this bye week facing Florida, Mizzou, Ole Miss, and possibly Tennessee while Bowers is unable to play. Both sides of the ball have lacked a lot from what we’ve seen in the past from Georgia, but this team is still strong and with their stout defense they can stay in games no matter how underwhelming the offense looks. What will be interesting is that Georgia is going to get hit in the mouth similar to the way they did against Auburn in their next three games, the question this time is will they be able to stay strong and find a way to win without their Heisman-worthy superstar for some time?

James Madison is the best team that *probably* won’t play in a bowl game: After making the transition from the FCS to the FBS over a year ago, the James Madison Dukes are 6-0 this season and 14-3 since they joined the Sun Belt Conference and yet, unless the NCAA actually does the right thing mid-season for once, they have no shot at playing in a bowl game or even their conference championship game. After making the transition to the FBS the NCAA has a two-year ban for these transitioning teams to try and prevent many FCS schools from doing this often. For James Madison’s case meanwhile, this is something that should not hold up as they were dominant in the FCS and had it not been for North Dakota State they could’ve won multiple titles as they were in the top 5 schools nearly every year for the past decade. This past weekend they dismantled a very dynamic Georgia Southern team and should be celebrating becoming bowl-eligible for the first time in school history, but this two-year ban spits in their face instead and once again they won’t even be able to play in their own conference championship even if their dominance holds up. JMU plays football this Thursday against Marshall, and if you haven’t paid attention to them before do so now because there probably aren’t many games left where you can see this talented squad until next season assuming the NCAA holds their ruling.

PC’S Takeaways

Kansas likes to fold against ok teams- Yes, I’m a KU guy. Yes, I’m gonna talk about them. I’M SORRY I KNOW!!! However, I am so tired of this team getting my hopes up. I know they’ve been terrible for most of the past decade, but that’s what makes it worse. I don’t expect to make it to the National Championship. I don’t even expect them to win the Big 12. However, when you lose to OKLAHOMA STATE WHO IS 2-3 I’M GONNA BE TICKED OFF!!! Why can’t Jalon man up and play QB. Jason Bean has been great stepping in as the back up Quarterback, but that’s what he is. A backup. Also, our defense couldn’t stop a pop warner running back out there. It was miss tackle after miss tackle. They allowed the Cowboys to come back and steal the win. I MEAN COME ON!!!! Hello, Kansas get your head out of your ass or this is going to end up like last year. Going 6-6 and getting blown out in a bowl game.

Michael Penix Jr. for Heisman- The Washington Huskies and the Oregon Ducks was the best matchup of the week. This game went back and forth. The atmosphere was rockin. The most impressive player on the field was Michael Penix Jr. He had 300 passing yards and 4 touchdowns against a rather impressive defense. Michael continued to show what a Heisman Trophy winner is supposed to look like. In the biggest part of the game, Penix is on the sidelines FREESTYLE RAPPING!!! Not stressing over the next play, not looking at the defense worrying if they’ll get a stop, or contemplating over bad decisions he made earlier in the game. He’s sitting down and being cool, calm, and collected. He ended up helping the Huskies beat the Ducks and take the top spot in the PAC 12. If Penix keeps this up, it will be him raising the Heisman this year.

West Virginia what just happened-This was a wild ending. I cannot believe that West Virginia choked this badly. With 40 seconds left in the game, West Virginia drove down the field. With 20 seconds left, the Mountaineers threw a touchdown pass with 14 seconds left that was supposed to seal the game. Well, it was supposed to seal it anyway. On a last ditch effort, Houston Quarterback, Donovon Smith, threw a hail mary into the endzone. The ball took flight and found its way into a Houston wide receiver’s hands. Stephon Johnson was lifted up in celebration as the Houston Cougars beat the Mountaineers. Now sitting at 4-2, the Mountaineers aren’t having a bad season. However, 5-1 would look a lot better. Pat McAfee was very disappointed in the Mountaineers, as was I.
