Dude...
Week 6 has come to a close and teams have separated themselves as winners and as losers. Not only did this week have a ton of surprises, we saw some serious upsets too. With almost half the season almost over, the Dudes have you covered if you missed anything. Hey, we get it. Sometimes the wife makes you watch Suits instead of football. Here's what you missed.
How6rd’s Takeaways
Oklahoma passed the “real threat” test with flying colors: I had a lot of doubts both before the season and even just before this past weekend whether Oklahoma would really be a scary team to face for anyone or not, but all those doubts were put to rest after they stayed resilient throughout the game and scored the game-winning touchdown with 15 seconds remaining in the game. Dillon Gabriel had occasional bad throws throughout the game yet when it mattered most in their final drive he went 4/4 with for 58 yards and threw the game-winning touchdown in what was his best drive at Oklahoma up to now. The defense was probably the second most impressive part of this Oklahoma win as the turnovers they caused, five sacks they had on Quinn Ewers, a fourth-down stop, and even forcing a field goal in the end were all huge pieces of why Oklahoma even had a chance to win it in the first place. On the Texas side of things it wasn’t all bad as the run game still looks strong and quarterback Quinn Ewers had a good turnaround after some huge turnovers that killed Texas’ momentum early on, but the biggest downfall for the Longhorns this game was both the turnovers and questionable play calling before kicking a field goal as both aspects could’ve created a more different outcome if improved (even though that’s how 90% of football losses go). Nonetheless, the positives for Oklahoma were huge in the “Red River Showdown” and they deservedly should be in the conversation for National Championship contention.
Louisville proved many people wrong: When Louisville was getting hype about being in the Top 25 rankings during the preseason I was admittedly one of the many who laughed at everyone giving them such praise thinking there’s no way their roster is talented enough. I am now here to say their roster definitely showed out in this recent victory against Notre Dame as for the first time all year Notre Dame’s QB Sam Hartman looked truly flustered throwing his first, second, AND third interceptions of the season all in this matchup. This was a dominant win on top of it all for the Cardinals as they didn’t allow for any huge runs to happen all game and completely overwhelmed the Notre Dame offensive line with multiple rushers as there wasn’t much Notre Dame could do without preparing for it ahead of time. As for the offense QB Jack Plummer struggled at times and Jamari Thrash’s fumble was almost exactly what Notre Dame needed to get back into the game, but the skill players including Thrash himself are speed demons and really made some big explosive plays to secure a blowout. The true star of this game was obviously Jawhar Jordan as his acceleration with the ball in his hands is absurd and completely blew by the Notre Dame defense if he had any kind of open field in front of him scoring two touchdowns and a season-high 143 rushing yards in the win. The Cardinals are a threat in the ACC for the first time since Lamar Jackson’s Heisman days and could be arguably one of the most exciting teams in the nation, of course both the most exciting and hard to watch at the same time being…
LSU…the team best representing a double-edged sword: If you closed your eyes and covered your ears every time the LSU defense was on the field the Bayou Bengals are a sight to behold. Going to Columbia, Missouri facing the red-hot Tigers wearing black and gold was a tough task after losing a game the week before even after putting up 49 points. Jayden Daniels proved just why the media needs to start taking him seriously being a Heisman candidate, as he was the heart and soul of this team this past Saturday throwing for a season-low(!) 259 passing yards with three touchdowns through the air and a season-high 130 rushing yards with another clutch touchdown on the ground. The defense made it where all those stats once again nearly didn’t matter as Mizzou was offensively cooking aside from two critical interceptions thrown by Brady Cook as they had the lead with 5:40 remaining in the game before the connection of Daniels and Malik Nabers displayed why they’re the best QB-receiver duo in the country. For now it’s pronounced “Geaux Tigers” after a huge win to keep their conference championship hopes alive, but the Tigers defensively need a huge spark the rest of the way to have a shot at what could still be a huge season.
PC’S Takeaways
Kansas shows their strength: After the week 5 loss to Texas, things didn’t look so good for the Jayhawks. They set up to face UCF and didn’t have a starting QB. Jason Bean came in and BALLED OUT!! He demonstrated that he was a very capable QB even as a backup. He made plays when he needed to and continued to be efficient with the ball. He ended up with only 1 touchdown, but he didn’t turn the ball over. It’s not like Bean needed to do much. Devin Neal and Daniel Hishaw Jr. continued to show that Kansas’s best chance of winning is with the ground game. Neal and Hishaw both rushed for over 100 yards. Neal scored a touchdown, Hishaw scored 2, and the third string running back Dylan McDuffie had 2 touchdowns as well. All three running backs scored 5 total touchdowns and almost 300 yards rushing. Along with the punt return for a touchdown, the Jayhawks dominated the Knights with a 51-22 victory to move the team to 5-1. The Jayhawks should continue to win as they play Oklahoma State next week. Watch out for the Jayhawks, this is the best team they’ve had in 20 years.
Miami…. What are we doing here?? It looked like the Hurricanes would compete with the top dogs of the ACC. They were undefeated looking like they would continue that unbeaten streak. With 30 seconds left in the 4th quarter, it looked like that unbeaten streak would continue. Instead of taking a knee to run the clock out, they decide to RUN THE FOOTBALL!! Guess what, with 25 seconds left, the running back coughed up the football and gave Georgia Tech one last chance to win the football game. Which is exactly what they did. Look, Miami is still a great team. However, why don’t you knee the game out?? Why put your player in that position to make that mistake?? This was a head scratcher for me and it will continue to be for a long time.
Wyoming Football is TOUGH: Wyoming isn’t a team we would normally talk about, but this Cowboys team is built DIFFERENT! The Cowboys continue to look good, as they beat #24 ranked Fresno State, breaking the second longest win streak at 14 games. Now, the pokes are a team that no one really pays attention to. You should start. Andrew Peasley threw for 3 touchdowns and completely dominated in the first half. The running game looked strong, and the defense looked like an immovable force. The Pokes found themselves out front 24-7 at halftime. This is where you saw the defense struggle in the second half. They played ok, but they gave up points and almost found themselves in a comeback. However, the defense bowed and didn’t break, leading Wyoming to a 4-1 record. Their only loss is from Texas who still looks like a National Championship contender even with them losing to Oklahoma this Saturday. Whichever way you spin it, the Pokes have a good team.
