Dude...

Week three was one of the worst weeks of college football. The matchups were horrible and most of the games were complete blowouts. However, you know your guys from Dudes and Sports have you covered with the latest takeaways from this weeks games!!! So, grab your reading glasses and your glass full of beer and enjoy the week three takeaway!!

How6rd’s Takeaways

Let’s talk about the Heisman front runner… Michael Penix Jr: We’ve seen some really good QB play to start the season and many people are on the wagon for Caleb Williams to repeat and even bringing up strong conversation when talking about Jordan Travis. The name that isn’t floating around nearly the same in the media has looked better than either starter has and he’s doing the most for the Washington Huskies which is their QB Michael Penix Jr. Penix has some ridiculous numbers put up so far leading the country in passing yards, tied for second in passing touchdowns, and is in the top five for passing efficiency with more pass attempts than any other quarterback in that range. The 23-year-old had a monster game this past weekend against Michigan State (who is on a downward slope as of late) throwing a season-high 473 passing yards and having three out of four touchdown passes thrown right on the money. Now yes the opponents he’s faced deservedly shouldn’t be given anything to go too crazy about yet, but with three straight 400+ passing yards games to open the season and a crazy PAC 12 stretch for the Huskies coming up you might want to hop on the bandwagon sooner than later.

LSU is now awake: In week 1 of the season LSU and Florida State were the only two ranked teams facing another ranked team, and it’s safe to say Florida State looked spectacular just as much as LSU looked bad and “rusty.” Similar to last season though, the Tigers were given another tough test early in the season against a Mississippi State team who started off hot until they ran into the Tigers in Starkville. Both Jayden Daniels and wide receiver Malik Nabers looked spectacular in this game rightfully earning “Co-SEC Offensive Player of the Week” awards including Nabers having over 200 receiving yards in the game. It wasn’t just the offense that was stellar though, as the defense held Mississippi State to 7 (!) total yards before their last drive of the first half. On one hand, this game made it clear that Mississippi State is back in the transitional stage of a new era and a new coach, on the other side of the coin LSU looked the best they have since they were in playoff conversation last season at just the right time with SEC play commencing.

PAC 12 wars begin this weekend: In non-conference play, the conference that’s on a farewell tour is going out in major style having EIGHT teams through the first three weeks of the season ranked in the AP poll. In week four there will be three games where two of those ranked teams face each other as Coach Prime and Colorado travel to Autzen Stadium to take on the Ducks, Cam Rising potentially getting his season debut for Utah at home against the freshman QB Dante Moore and UCLA, and every “trenches” (offensive and defensive line) fan’s favorite matchup with Oregon State taking on Washington State. The country’s new team in Colorado should have by far their biggest test as a team starting conference play against Oregon as the Ducks haven’t allowed one turnover all year so far which has been what’s helped out the Buffs’ shaky defense the most this season. If Cam Rising is playing this week his first game back will be exactly the pressure he needs to be in to get in the groove he was in last season and start Utah’s path for greatness (although UCLA Rising or not will be a lot to handle). Last but definitely not the least exciting matchup is the Oregon State Beavers against the Wazzu Cougars which will be transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei’s first matchup under the spotlight since he struggled in important games at Clemson, and Pullman is the one place where he and the brick wall of the Beavers’ O-line must hold strong.

Colorado and Colorado State was just a taste of crazy football that we’re gonna get from the PAC 12 this upcoming week and I anticipate each one of these games to be a war (which is something I haven’t said about this conference in a while).

PC’S Takeaways

Mizzou’s Fantastic Victory: M-I-Z…. Ok I'm not a Mizzou fan so I’m going to stop there…. However, they had a massive win over the K-State Wildcats in Columbia. Going into this game, most people thought it would be a blow out. K-State was ranked and continued to look like one of the best teams in the Big 12. Mizzou has shown strides in the past, but everytime they showed it was going to be different this year, it wasn’t. This game was back and forth. No team seemed to have the edge. Both Qbs showed promised, but then returned to earth only plays later. Both defenses seemed strong and the game turned out to be even closer than everyone expected. Finally, Mizzou was in field goal range and… pulled a Mizzou original and got a false start penalty. That moved the kick from 57 yards to 62 for Harrison Mevis. This Mizzou kicker had missed a 25 yard field goal last year, so no one thought he could make this one. Sure enough, #92 himself hit an SEC field goal record to win the game for the Tigers. Now, what’s next for this team? Is this the year they finally get over the hump and win the SEC. Not likely, but the Tigers are now a team to watch.

Colorado keeps rolling: The Buffalos have been one of college football’s most exciting teams this season. With Deion Sanders at the helm, they’ve quickly turned the crappy Colorado Buffalos, into the astonishing Colorado Buffalos. Colorado State would call them something else. When Colorado State’s head coach made some comments about the Buffalos, Deion said “it’s now personal”. As college gameday came into town, the crowd was electric. When the sun went down, all those fans piled into the stadium. Let me just say, neither team disappointed., Colorado found themselves down pretty much the entire game. Travis Hunter seemed to be playing out of his mind, until Safety Henry Blackburn gave him the cheap shot of all cheap shots. THAT IS NOT FOOTBALL!!! Now, the kid doesn’t deserve death threats, but it doesn’t matter who you’re playing or who you do that to. It isn’t an ok play. He hurt Travis Hunter on purpose. Hunter had to exit the game. Shadeur wasn’t going to let Hunter go down in vein. He carried his team down the field in the 4th quarter to tie the game to send it into overtime. This game went into two overtimes until Sanders had enough and won the game for the Buffalos. Now, with a 3-0 start, is it safe to call Colorado a National Championship contender? Or do they have more to prove? Whatever the case, Deion couldn’t have asked for a better start to his first season as head coach.
