Dude…

I know it’s been a long time since I’ve written one of these articles, but summer is here and baseball is on. While baseball is a favorite sport to some, it is not one of mine. The other Dudes have been online working on the podcast. So you get the basketball guy from now on. Basketball is on this summer, but it’s for a different team. The team of beers, pride, and freedom. From the Red, White and Blue. The US Avengers were formed. Lebron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Anthony Edwards, Devin Booker, Jason Tatum, the list goes on and on. This superpower team looks almost unbeatable. Can anyone become Thanos and vaporize the US? I think only 4 teams have the ability to maybe topple our giant.

France: France is the host nation. Not only have they done the best in medal count in 2024, their basketball team is scary good. With young phenom Victor Wembanyama and the multiple time Defensive Player of the Year in Rudy Gobert. This team has two massive players in the paint to make it very difficult to get anything going in the paint. Evan Founier is a great role player but, it seems like this French team is 4 years too early. With a double digit loss to Germany, it may seem like this team doesn’t quite have enough experience. Look out for them in LA in 2028, but you never know, the young buck might stick it to the Americans.

Germany: Speaking of the Germans, the FIBA 2023 World Cup Champions are looking to strike gold. They are lead by Dennis Schroder and the Wagner brothers. They absolutely destroyed their group by defeating each team by more than double digits. This also includes a 85-71 over France. Franz Wagner continues to shine and looks like it’ll be a great year in Orlando for the Magic. This team is just so well put together. They have their stars in Schroder and Wagner. They have their role players like Mo Wagner and Daniel Theis that know their role and do their roles well. Look for them to try steal it again from the Americans and slay the giant for 2 years straight.

Canada: Yes the boys from up north are our biggest threat. SGA should’ve been MVP. I don’t care, he played lights out for OKC this year. His teammate from OKC in Lu Dort has been a defensive menace. We can’t forget about the other bully in Dillon Brooks. With those three, this team is already star studded. RJ Barrett, Andrew Nembhard, and the all mighty Jamal Murray. This team can play fast and competitively. They are missing a big, (a big like Zach Edey could actually help), but this team can hang with the best. With this much challenge, they are bound to cause problems for any team, including the USA.

Now don’t get your panties in a twist. I am an American above all. I’m also just a dude who loves basketball. The US basketball team has to prove they are the Champions of the World. However, the world is catching up, and bringing real foes to the table. Will the US continue to be the dominant country? Or will they falter? I don’t think so, but the US plays Brazil Tuesday in the Quarterfinals. Let’s hope the boys can bring back the gold!!!
