Dude…
Week 2 has officially closed and oh boy we have some things to talk about!! College football always brings the randomness of a new season and all the uncertainties it brings along with it. We have top teams from last year falling under the pressure, and teams creating diamonds under that same type of pressure. We have teams making someone else’s trash into treasure. We have teams who have trash that’s just trash. Either way, here are the Dudes takeaways from week 2.
PC’s Takeaways
Texas is all the way back- With the greatest matchup of the weekend taking place in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, we are used to the Crimson Tide running the table. However, the Hook ‘em Horns came to town and decided to prove that they were still a powerhouse. In the contest, the game went back and forth and the Horns were up 4 at halftime. The Crimson Tide came roaring back and was up 6. Then Quinn Ewers decided to bring Texas back. They scored 21 unanswered points to beat the Alabama Crimson Tide on their own turf. Here’s the thing, Texas is in its last season in the Big 12. They look like they could actually win the whole thing. Ewers looked strong and their defense reminds me of the Cowboys. They’re strong and look to continue their hot streak. Either way, I severely dislike the Longhorns so Horns down baby!!
The ACC has new top Dawgs- As we all have come to know, the ACC has been run by the Clemson Tigers. The Tigers have been known to be the most dominant team in the ACC. Until this year. The Clemson Tigers lost to the Duke Blue Devils in week one, but the Blue Devils aren’t the only high rising team in the ACC. The Miami Hurricanes seem to come from out of nowhere. The Canes were matched up against #24 Texas A&M this past Saturday and destroyed anyone that doubted that the Miami Heat weren’t the only championship contending team in the city. Tyler Van Dyke lit the defense on fire with 5 touchdown passes and almost 375 passing yards. The Canes dominated the Aggies in their own stadium with a profounding victory of 48-33. With Miami putting their name in the mix the top of the ACC looks vastly different. Florida State, Duke, Miami, and North Carolina all find themselves battling for first place and all find themselves in the top 25. Hey, maybe the ACC is more than just a bunch of basketball schools.
How6rd’s Takeaways
Wazzu joins the party for the stacked Pac-12: The conference based in the west coast still looks as strong as it was a week ago with USC, Colorado, and Washington handling business. The biggest addition to now what looks like a very interesting race for the conference title is the Washington State Cougars after basically handling the formerly ranked Wisconsin Badgers. For the first time since 2019 the Cougs are in the top 25 and they look really improved from keeping most of their players from over a season ago. Quarterback Cam Ward obviously has shown good improvement from a year ago, but what’s the most intriguing part of this team is the explosive defensive line led by Ron Stone Jr. who was undoubtedly the best defensive player from this weekend. This defense looks as lethal as Oregon State’s comparing to the best in the conference and if Ward and his receivers can continue to do damage for a full four quarters (unlike last season) then watch out for Wazzu to sneak their way into the top of the Pac-12.
Texas is Good, and so is Alabama: Now say what you want about Texas, but what most of the country can agree on is they just want to see anybody but ‘Bama win in football. Although Texas came in to the Crimson Tide’s home turf and showed the world how solid their team really is I can’t agree with a lot of the national media that Alabama is done just yet. I haven’t been the biggest believer of Jalen Milroe and this game really didn’t do much for proving that wrong, but the defense and the rest of the team looks to have some solid talent still and easily can still compete for the SEC crown. The biggest takeaway you can take from this game for Alabama is that this team definitely doesn’t have the chemistry it needs to have just yet in order to make a huge splash the rest of the season, but they can definitely get there. Nick Saban and his squad get what should be an easy one next week facing a team who hasn’t even been a threat to the “Group of 5” since 2017 in South Florida and that matchup could easily right the wrongs they had from their game against Texas right before SEC play begins. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from being to familiar with this school as an LSU fan is that Nick Saban has yet to truly have a disappointing season.
Tyler Van Dyke playing like it’s 2021: It confused many people when there was draft hype all about Miami’s QB before the start of last season and he didn’t make a fan of anybody from what he did throughout 2022. Now, TVD has looked just as talented as he did two years ago which earned him some NFL level hype throwing five touchdown passes against Texas A&M and making some throws difficult for many others look so easy. I’d be lying if I said I bought any A&M hype pre season after going through one of the most difficult seasons on and off the field last year in a while, but that doesn’t take away anything I saw from the Miami Hurricanes offense this past weekend as it seems like for the first time under Mario Cristobal that they’re playing with fire under them. Now there needs to be a lot more games played and consistency shown to earn his draft hype from a season ago back again, but this performance is exactly the reason behind all of the Van Dyke believers in the first place.
