Dude….

The Final Four is in the books. The two juggernauts still standing are the San Diego State Aztecs beat the FAU Owls 72-71 and the University of Connecticut or UCONN continued to show their dominance as they have all tournament with a blowout win over Miami 72-59. This tournament has two teams that most people didn’t have leaving their regions. In this article, we will be recapping these two games and giving you our National Championship prediction.

#5 San Diego State 72 #9 FAU 71

This game was a way better game than anyone here at Dudes and Sports thought it was going to be. A physical San Diego State defense looked to stop, the whatever we need to do to get the job done, FAU Owls. The game was back and forth to the very end. Matt Bradley started off extremely hot from outside and scoring giving the Aztecs an early lead. The Owls continued to fight back as Alijah Martin and company made it close going into halftime. As half-time concluded, the Owls came out with a vengeance in the second half and seemed like they were going to run and run away with the game. However, the San Diego State Aztecs started to lock down on the defensive end, and the likes of Lemount Butler and surprise 12 points off the bench from senior Jaedon LeDee, the Aztecs came back and made it a one-possession game. With a minute left in the game, Johnell Davis got fouled and made 2 free throws to go up 69-66. San Deigo State drew up a play to get Jaedon LeDee to the rim to go down by 1,68-69 with less than a minute. FAU calls a timeout and got a phenomenal play write-up for their star Alijah Martin to get a layup to bring it back within one. FAU had an opportunity to hit a jumper but Johnell Davis missed. This was set up to be a buzzer-beater win for the Aztecs. Lemount Butler took the moment and hit a jumper that went through the net just as time expired. This game went above and beyond any expectations I had, and the Aztecs make their one shining moment by beating the Cinderella team 72-71.

#4 UCONN 72 #4 Miami 59

This game wasn’t even a contest. Dan Hurley’s Huskies squad took control of the game in the beginning and never gave it back. The Hurricanes could simply not contain Adama Sanogo. The guy destroyed the Miami Hurricanes' hopes and dreams from the start. The Huskies started out hot with Sanogo dominating the paint. Sanogo was tearing through Norchad Omier who seemed to lock down the likes of Dylan Disu and Jarace Walker. Adama Sanogo went 9-11 and scored 21 and 10 rebounds. The Canes simply couldn’t get their shots to go in. Isiah Wong still scored 15 points but went 4-10 from the field. The biggest story about the Hurricanes wasn’t even about the game. Nijel Pack tore his shoe and they didn’t have a replacement!!! So the student manager had to run and try and find new shoes and he got the wrong size!! Sign that man to a track scholarship because he was zooming. Jordan Hawkins had 13 points but was dealing with a food poisoning issue and it still didn’t help the Canes case. The Huskies won by double digits for the 5th time this tournament out of 5 games. They blow by Miami and find themselves in the title game.

The National Championship

So it comes down to this. The Overwhelming favorite UCONN Huskies take on the giant slayer San Diego State Aztecs. This matchup could go one of two ways. One, Adama Sanogo and Jordan Hawkins continue their reign over this tournament and dominate the Aztecs to lead them to their 5th national championship in their schools history. Or, the giant slayers continue to kill goliath and add UCONN to the lists of slayings that include the comeback win over FAU, the comeback win over Creighton, and beating the top seed Alabama to bring the championship to the west coast. We all know what the experts think, they think UCONN is going to destroy the Aztecs just like they have with everyone. Who can blame them? Adama Sanogo has dominated big men all tournament long, who is going to combat him? Jordan Hawkins is healthy now, does Matt Bradley and Lamont Butler have that dawg in them to slow him down? We keep doing the same things as fans, we continue to count the Aztecs out. We counted them out against the Crimson Tide. We counted them out against the Bluejays. Hell, we counted them out against the Beach Boys when they were up 14 with 13 mins to go. They keep coming back. They continue to shut teams down eventually. They continue to make shots when it matters. They continue to prove everyone wrong again. And again. AND AGAIN!!!! So, I’m making a bold prediction. They will surprise everyone and continue to slay giants and tonight isn’t a different story. Too bad the Huskies aren’t playing like giants, they’re playing like gods. The Huskies do take home the championship, but it’s going to be a lot closer than everyone thinks. Score 71-68 Huskies.
