PC's CBB Corner 3 Report: Week 10

PC

Dude…

February is almost here. We are just under 2 months away from the big dance and things are heating up in conference play! Of course, more upsets have happened, and others have established themselves as tournament teams, or even better, National Championship contenders. Who are they and what happened last week? Don’t worry, ya boy PC has the latest for you.

Kansas, we have a problem- You would think that if you were up 6 with 16 seconds left on the clock you would win the game. You would especially think that if your team was shooting 2 free throws. In all of my years as a KU fan (which is about 15 at this point since I started watching them when I was 7) this may be the most frustrating loss I have ever experienced. Dajuan Harris missed both free throws. The Houston Cougars bolted down the court and Emmanuel Sharp made a 3 from the logo. Not a problem, up 3 with 8 seconds left, all you have to do is inbound the ball and you basically win. What does Zeke Mayo do? HE THROWS THE FUCKING BALL AWAY!! Which leads to Maylik Williams who hasn’t shot the ball well at all, to drain a 3 to send the game into double overtime! I MEAN….. WHAT. THE. FUCK. Now, KU is scrambling and Houston secures the 92-86 win over the Jayhawks. This is the second game now that KU has lost in Allen Fieldhouse already and the aura of the Jayhawks seems to be non existent in this team. Wanna know why? Hunter Dickinson is not a super star. We need something else. We can’t keep relying on this bimbo in the middle. Flory Bidunga was in the starting line up for the Hawks and looked fantastic. KJ was not missed. We continue to do the same thing over and over again. We get guys in the portal that are supposed to be able to shoot and when they get to the big leagues of college hoops, they shit in their hands. I don’t know if it’s a Self thing or what. However, this team is sooooooo frustrating. Beyond frustrating, just silly. Flashes of last year’s team ooze off the current one. Don’t be shocked come March that the Jayhawks are a 4 or 5 seed and get upset in round one. With the right matchup (Drake for example) the Jayhawks will have another disappointing season. However, fans will be rejoicing as clown Hunter Dickinson cannot play college hoops anymore and we finally get a fresh start with a new bunch of kids coming into Kansas.

SEC still on top- In a tumultuous week for SEC basketball, the Ole Miss Rebels faced significant challenges, enduring three consecutive narrow losses. They fell to Texas A&M 63-62 on January 22, followed by defeats to Alabama and LSU later in the week. In contrast, the Missouri Tigers continued their ascent in the rankings, showcasing their prowess with decisive victories over Georgia and South Carolina, further solidifying their position as a formidable force in the conference. Meanwhile, the Auburn Tigers maintained their dominance atop the SEC standings, with head coach Bruce Pearl emphasizing the league's rigorous competitiveness, likening it to the intensity of SEC football. Pearl noted, "Every single Saturday, you got a chance to get physically whooped, mentally whooped." Auburn's consistent performance underscores their stronghold at the summit, with no immediate threats to their leading position. Vanderbilt got 2 huge wins over Tennessee and Kentucky at home, which caused fans to storm the court. In the biggest game in the SEC over this week the No. 12 Kentucky Wildcats secured a significant 78-73 victory over the No. 8 Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville on January 28. Koby Brea led Kentucky with 18 points, making all three of his three-point attempts, while Jaxson Robinson contributed 17 points, including four three-pointers. Amari Williams achieved a double-double with 10 points and a season-high 15 rebounds. Despite missing key players Lamont Butler and Andrew Carr, the Wildcats shot 50% from the field and connected on 12 of 24 three-point attempts. Tennessee's Igor Milicic Jr. led all scorers with 19 points, but the Volunteers struggled with shooting, making only 34.7% from the field. This victory improved Kentucky's record to 15-5 overall and 4-3 in the SEC. So, Auburn may be the top squad this year in the SEC, but the fight for 2-4 is a lot closer than people think.

Does UCONN still have a chance at a 3 peat?- The UConn Huskies have encountered a challenging 2024-25 season, currently holding a 14-6 overall record and a 6-3 mark in Big East play. This performance contrasts with their dominant back-to-back national championship runs in previous years. Head coach Dan Hurley, known for his fiery demeanor, recently declared, "Don't turn your back on me. I'm the best coach in the fucking sport," during a heated exchange with a referee in a narrow 80-78 overtime victory against Butler. The Huskies have faced difficulties in conference play, including a recent 76-72 loss to Xavier. The absence of key player Liam McNeeley has been felt, but his anticipated return could bolster UConn's prospects, potentially positioning them as strong contenders for another national championship.
